Glen Waverley is one of many interesting suburbs in the greater metropolitan area of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. It is about 12 miles (19 kilometers) from Melbourne.

The city encompasses hills as well as flat terrain along Dandenong Creek. A scenic biking and pedestrian trail parallels the creek and connects to other trail systems.

It is the terminus of the Glen Waverley Railway Line, with connections to bus and airport services. The station there, which has operated since 1930 at two locations, boasts Premium rail transport status. A college town, Glen Waverley has soccer and Australian football clubs and features golfing and other recreational facilities. A wide scope of shopping and dining options and night life scenes abound.

The area was settled in the mid-19th Century. Farmers found it especially fertile ground for fields and orchards; they called it Black Flat. Residents later renamed it Glen Waverly, apparently in honor of Sir Walter Scott, whose famous works include the Waverley novels.

Although Glen Waverley is a populous residential city, it holds special attractions for nature lovers. The bushlands of Shepherds Bush and Hinkler Reserve and the billabongs (pools) of Bushy Park Wetlands are oases in suburbia, homes to multiple birds, animals and flora. Visitors explore them along trails and boardwalks. In all, the city has some 125 public parks and gardens.
